This paper looks at the correspondence between Princess Elizabeth of Bohemia (1618-1680) and the French philosopher René Descartes (1596-1650). Analyzing specific segments of the letters they addressed to each other, it emerges that Descartes, advising Elizabeth and recommending her to read Seneca, was also following an ancient, or more precisely, Stoic therapeutic technique. Namely, it seems that he, like the Stoics, believed that philosophy could provide a kind of consolation or support in moments of crisis, that is, during specific turbulent moments in life.
