Čitavo događanje otvoreno je koncertom hora Jevrejske opštine Novi Sad – „Hašira“ i izložbom u novosadskoj Sinagogi pod nazivom „Pisanje stradanja: vodič kroz publikacije o Holokaustu“ autorke, Bilјane Albahari i dizajnerke Ornele Rezinović.

kontekst društvenih promena druge polovine XX veka, odnosno u
kontekst svetske revolucije 1968. i kulturnih ratova. Stoga su Volerstinova
svetsko-sistemska perspektiva i Hartmanova istorija kulturnih
disciplina, usled ovih društvenih previranja i sâma prošla
kroz dalekosežne transformativne procese. Naposletku, autor zastupa
Doprinos ovog rada ogleda
se u identifikaciji, sistematizaciji i interpretaciji socioloških ratova.
AB - The paper considers substantial changes in sociology which started in the sixties. By using the method of contextual analysis, these changes in the sociologist’s identity are situated in the context of social changes in the second half of the XX century, that is, in the context of the world revolution of 1968 and the culture wars. Therefore, Wallerstein’s world-system perspective and Hartman’s history of the culture wars served as a theoretical foundation for understanding the socio-historical context in which a metamorphosis of the sociological science took place. In the paper, the author presents three complementary contentions. The first one is that during the sixties sociology, like the rest of the scholarly community, found itself drawn into the tumultuous social events of that time. The next contention is that sociology itself, unlike other academic disciplines, has undergone far-reaching transformative processes as a consequence of these social upheavals. Lastly, the author contends that a conflict of two diametrically opposed visions of sociology, a conflict of what Friedrichs designated as “the priestly and the prophetic mode”, should be perceived as a clash of the New Left and the reactionary fraction of the Old Left within the sociological community. The main contribution of this paper is the identification, systematization and interpretation of the sociology wars.

i radimo.
njenih korisnika, preko samog procesa vršenja rada posredstvom
platforme, do ocenjivanja izvršenog rada, na taj način preuzimajući
brojne funkcije poslodavca (algoritamski menadžment). I dok platforme
funkcionisanje svojih algoritama predstavljaju u pozitivnom svetlu
doprinosa koji daju automatizaciji i objektivnosti u procesu donošenja
odluka, ovim istraživanjem pokazaćemo da izneta tvrdnja platformi
nije do kraja tačna, jer funkcionisanje njihovog algoritma rezultira
odsustvom transparentnosti i objektivnosti u procesu donošenja
potrebnu promenu pravnog okvira u cilju efikasne zaštite fundamentalnih
ljudskih prava usled delovanja algoritamskog menadžmenta.
AB - Information technology has fundamentally changed the way how people live and work. Digital platforms, as one of the main products of information technologies, have a special influence on almost every single aspect of social life. It is a digital, online, platform that represents a kind of virtual market that brings together several different participants who can not get in touch directly (Multi-Sided Market). The main feature of digital platforms is that the connection of participants in this virtual market is done through the platform’s algorithm. Thus, the platform acts as a catalyst for the realization of various social needs, where today, for almost every social need there is a platform that combines supply and demand to meet a specific need. The exception, of course, is not the need of work. In this area digital platforms actually act as a virtual labor market. In such a market, the pairing of participants that have a need to perform a particular job and participants that have a need to find a job (digital workers) is done through a platform’s algorithm. These algorithms work on the basis of a huge amount of different data that the platform collects from the moment of registration of its users, through the process of performing work through the platform, to evaluating the work done, thus taking over many employer functions (algorithmic management). While platforms present the operation of their algorithms in a positive light of their contribution to automation and objectivity in the decision-making process, this research will show that the platform’s claim is not entirely accurate, as the operation of their algorithm results in a lack of transparency and objectivity in decision-making. In this regard, the research aims to formulate concrete proposals for the necessary change in the legal framework in order to effectively protect fundamental human rights on work due to the actions of algorithmic management.

transformacije, a pritom poštovale principe inkluzivnosti i socijalne
pravednosti, kao i slobodu izražavanja i stvaralaštva. Podaci i uvidi
izloženi u okviru sprovedenog istraživanja nedvosmisleno su potvrdili
njegovu osnovnu polaznu pretpostavku: u kontekstu ubrzane digitalizacije,
i, posledično, ekonomska i društvena valorizacija različitih prava
intelektualne svojine.
i privrednih posledica digitalizacije u ovoj oblasti, veća transparentnost
u radu državnih organa, sistemska i ciljana edukacija i kritičko,
prilagođenije usvajanje pravnih tekovina EU u ovoj oblasti.
AB - Starting from the existing scientific insights and taking in consideration both the global challenges and the needs of the Serbian society, this paper examines the possibilities for improvements in the existing public policies that would respect the existing intellectual property rights (IPRs) and upkeep the advantages of digital transformation, but also respect the principles of inclusion and social justice, as well as the need to protect the freedom of expression and creation. All the data and insights collected during the research have confirmed its initial premise: in the context of rapid digitalisation, economically weaker subjects are more inclined to give up taking various steps related to the acquisition and management of IPRs. In other words, the digital gap significantly increases the gap in availability and, consequently, economic and social valorisation of various IPRs. Overcoming of this problem is only possible by applying a bundle of measures that would lead to the reforms of the existing public policies; among all those measures, a particular attention has been paid to the following: the systemic analysis of the data regarding various requests for the protection of different IPRs, the assessment of the main social and economic consequences of digitalisation in this field, an increased transparency in the functioning of governmental bodies, the specialised educational programmes and a more adapted adoption of the European Union’s acquis in this field.

koji nastaju usled razvoja i primene veštačke inteligencije. Drugi deo
onlajn upitnik. Upitnik se sastojao od opštih sociodemografskih pitanja,
pitanja o upoznatosti sa veštačkom inteligencijom, kratkog uvoda
u pojam veštačke inteligencije, i pitanja o stavovima učesnika
RS, a potom u MUP RS i Ministarstvo pravde RS, dok najviše veruje
AB - This paper was created within the project Ethics and AI: Ethics and Public Attitudes on the Use of Artificial Intelligence, within the program Serbia and Global Challenges: Towards Fairer and More Democratic Public Policies, organized by the Open Society Foundation Serbia in partnership with the Institute of Philosophy and Social theory. The first part of the paper consists of a theoretical study of ethical challenges arising from the development and application of artificial intelligence. The second part of the paper is an empirical study of public attitudes towards various aspects of the use of artificial intelligence.
The term artificial intelligence (AI) describes systems that mimic cognitive functions generally associated with human attributes such as learning, speech, and problem solving. A more detailed characterization describes artificial intelligence in the context of its ability to independently interpret and learn from external data in order to achieve specific outcomes through flexible adaptation. AI is designed to achieve specific goals, and refers to computer systems that execute tasks, make decisions or achieve goals in complex situations, without explicit instructions from people. Examples of the use of VI are: robots, industrial used in production, humanoid, interacting with humans, autonomous vehicles, virtual assistants and travel reservation agents, natural language processing tools, translation, image classification and face identification, drones that do not require a controller, military drones. In the medical sector, robots are used to assist the elderly and surgeons, as receptionists, to diagnose and map diseases.
AI technology is no longer a field of futurology, but an integral part of everyday life. AI permeates every aspect of society. It is used in various sectors - health, economics, education and learning, security, and other spheres of life. Progress in area AI affects all aspects of society, including the labor market, transport, health care, education and national security.
AI can greatly facilitate people’s daily and business lives, but it also brings with it certain challenges, such as privacy, transparency, discrimination, job loss, responsibility, knowledge, familiarity, perception and attitudes of people towards the use of AI. I have conducted an empirical study of public attitudes towards various aspects of the use of artificial intelligence. The participants in the research were the public in the Republic of Serbia (N = 737) who voluntarily filled out an online questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of general socio-demographic questions, questions about familiarity with artificial intelligence, a brief introduction to the concept of artificial intelligence, and questions about the attitudes of participants towards the application of artificial intelligence. The results showed that these attitudes are influenced by factors such as the age of the respondents. Also, the results showed that the public is concerned about the disappearance of professions due to the development of artificial intelligence, as well as discrimination by artificially intelligent systems. When it comes to citizens’ trust in institutions to use artificial intelligence in the best interest of the public, it has been shown that the public in the Republic of Serbia has the least trust in the RS Government, the RS Ministry of the Interior and the RS Ministry of Justice, while trusts the most researchers from universities and international research organizations. The results suggest a need to focus on educating the public about potential challenges and ways to prevent them. In addition, these results inform both the academic and general public, as well as decision-makers, which can lead to a dialogue between these parties. I argue that considering different aspects of public attitudes toward artificial intelligence enhances this debate. The views of philosophers, lawyers and scientists dealing with this topic are present in the ongoing debate, but not the attitude of the public, which reflects the need for this type of research.

nose veliku vidljivost i privlače širu pažnju javnosti. Ovim fenomenom,
5 miliona“ i široko shvaćen ekološki pokret.
AB - In postindustrial societies, attention has become a more valuable currency than the one we store in our bank accounts. In this article I wonder how this phenomenon affects social and political activism, which has to compete for attention with commercial actors on the one hand, and big, financially more powerful political organizations, on the other. Having this in mind, activist collectives use celebrities in order to be more competitive in terms of attracting attention, since celebrities carry visibility and attract attention on the basis of the vocation of their job. I am dealing with the phenomenon of “celebrity activism” in the context of Serbia as a case study. Firstly, I wonder about the extent to which the “attention economy” affected activism in Serbia, as well as about the role of celebrities in activist endeavors against the “laws” of the attention economy. In this study, I will focus on three activist collectives, namely “Protiv diktature”, “Jedan od 5 miliona” and ekološki pokret, in a wider sense of meaning.

Divine Genius, Subversive Hero, or Creative Entrepreneur? Exploring Various Facets of the Artist as a Mythical Figure

AB - People have always related art to the creation and transmission of myths. While myth as a theme in art has been thoroughly addressed, research about the “mythic” nature of the artist figure is far less common. The 20th and 21st centuries brought challenges to the status of art and artists in society, historically situated archetypes and stereotypes that we associate with the figure of the “artist” still survive to this day (e.g. “genius”, “subversive artists”, “child prodigy”, “eccentric”, etc.). In this paper, we set out to analyze various tropes used persistently to describe artists and explore how relevant the resulting myths are in (self) perceptions of Serbian contemporary artists. Our multidisciplinary approach to this topic combines a historicaltheoretical and empirical perspective. Through historical research of the relevant literature, we described and mapped the key tropes of the (mythical) artist figure as it developed in Western culture. In the theoretical analysis we address the inseparability of digital culture with everyday life of people today, which we call postdigital. We explore how the transition into contemporaneity affects the determination of the “artistfigure”, i.e., how it impacts the contemporary process of mythmaking. Following our historicaltheoretical analysis, we conducted five indepth interviews with contemporary Serbian artists to understand better how relevant the artist myth tropes are for their selfperception.

In the theoretical analysis we address the inseparability of digital culture with everyday life of people today, which we call postdigital. We explore how the transition into contemporaneity affects the determination of the “artistfigure”, i.e., how it impacts the contemporary process of mythmaking. Following our historicaltheoretical analysis, we conducted five indepth interviews with contemporary Serbian artists to understand better how relevant the artist myth tropes are for their selfperception.",

AB - In many parts of the world, journalists work in increasingly hostile environments. To better understand the characteristics and implications of hostility against the press in a hybrid regime, this study explores how journalists in Serbia perceive and experience anti-press hate speech. Based on 20 interviews with diverse reporters, we describe hate speech against journalists as an ad hominem attack triggered by the very nature of journalistic conduct. We discuss two identified mechanisms of hate speech propagation. The first, machinery of hate speech, refers to orchestrated attacks on independent journalists by ruling party officials, pro-government news outlets, and troll armies. In contrast, the lone-wolf-haters mechanism refers to authentic and sporadic expressions of hate by extreme partisan audiences to which all journalists are susceptible, regardless of their affiliation. Describing their personal experiences, the participants report various responses to encountering hate speech, ranging from immediate emotions to less immediate psychological reactions to physical health problems. To prevent hateful acts from interfering with their journalistic performance, they rely on a variety of coping strategies and mechanisms, including psychological and professional strategies, as well as social and institutional support.

AB - The digital environment presents activists with new possibilities and challenges in
their advocacy efforts when performing the key communication functions—i.e., informing the public, community building, and mobilizing citizens for various activities.
Digital tools allow activists to circumvent mainstream media gatekeepers and speak
directly to their audiences. Activists can use digital platforms to build and maintain
relations with their public, forging a dialogue on important issues for the community.
Digital platforms can also be used to reinvigorate citizens’ interest in politics and facilitate various modes of political participation. However, in order to utilize the full potential of digital platforms, activists need to find ways to capture the attention of
digital audiences. This is becoming increasingly difficult as activists face stark competition from various actors—including politicians, celebrities, and popular brands—
who also depend on public attention to meet their goals. Against this background, this
study set out to identify and describe the main strategies that activists in Serbia use
to capture the attention of digital audiences to promote the social changes they
advocate.
Given the exploratory nature of the study, a qualitative research design was selected. Data were collected using qualitative content analysis and in-depth interviews.
Purposive sampling was used to select ten diverse organizations that differ with
respect to the type of organization (formally registered NGOs and informal citizens’
associations), thematic focus (e.g., environment, housing, and labor rights), and
geographic scope (local, regional, and national). The entire content of each organization’s websites and social media posts (on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
published between 1 September and 31 December 2021 were analyzed. In addition,
in-depth interviews were conducted with ten activists from six organizations that
accepted the invitation to participate. The main research question was addressed
through an inductive thematic analysis of notes obtained through qualitative content
analysis and interview transcripts.
Three key strategies were identified based on the procedure outlined above. The
first strategy was tailoring, which refers to a set of tactics employed by activists to
adjust the content and presentation of digital communications to the target group and
platform characteristics. Activists drew most attention and engagement from digital
audiences through careful selection of information, emphasis on the relevance of information to audiences, and creative forms of presentation. However, it was also found
that activists often replicate the same content across digital platforms, failing to utilize the specificity of each platform, which appeared to negatively influence audience
engagement. The second strategy was labeled connecting and refers to the use of dialogic and interactive functions of digital platforms to strengthen the ties between
community members. Activists often successfully spurred audience engagement by
asking questions and starting debate on important issues, as well as by amplifying authentic voices that are often missing from mainstream discourse. However, though
activists frequently started discussions on digital platforms, they rarely participated
in these discussions, missing the opportunity to use the interactive features of digital
platforms to improve public perceptions of civil society and contribute to trust building. Finally, empowering and organizing was identified as a strategy activists use to increase the political efficacy of their followers, increase their interest in politics, and
motivate them to take various forms of political action. Celebrating small victories
and motivational framing were recognized as successful tactics for increasing audience engagement. Less successful were mobilization posts that did not explain how
citizens can participate and how their participation will contribute to desired changes.
The theoreticaland practical implications of these findings were discussed.

Narcissism as a moral incompetence

AB - In this paper I suggest that the moral incompetence in narcissism is associated with a particular type of emotional incompetence, namely the incompetence to experience the moral emotions, such as empathy, solidarity, loyalty or love. I then move on to discussing the ethical ramifications of this incompetence, primarily from the point of view of sentimentalist ethics, and conclude that emotional incompetence does not in fact reduce the moral responsibility of a narcissist person, whether diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder or not. My argument is based on the three criteria of moral responsibility proposed by Philip Pettit, namely those of value relevance, value judgement, and value sensitivity. I suggest that a sentimentalist ethical perspective entails that the satisfaction of two of the mentioned criteria (awareness of the social meaning of one’s choices and sufficient control of one’s actions) constitutes a moral obligation for the agent to satisfy the third criterion, namely to develop the appropriate moral sensibility and competence to actually choose morally correctly. This type of structure of obligation elucidates why narcissism is at the same time a moral failure and a psychopathology. At the same time, my argument portrays narcissism as a particular type of personality disturbance that almost uniquely reaffirms the role of moral re-education as the psychotherapeutic approach. This conclusion points to a potential revival of some of the precepts of Pinel’s affective psychopathology, dating back to the very beginnings of the psychotherapeutic clinic.

AB - The aim of this paper is the reconsideration of Gadamer’s hermeneutical-ontological aesthetics, through the analysis of the concepts of play, truth and identity. After
a brief introduction and the situating of Gadamer’s aesthetics in relation to the subjective and positivist tradition, it will be respectively discussed Gadamer’s understanding
of play as the clue to the ontological explanation of art in Truth and method, the truth
as self-relevatory and in addition to that the reaffirmation of the concept of mimesis
and knowledge in art. Finally, the identity in the context of the temporality of the artwork, as well as hermeneutic identity exposed in Gadamer’s later work The Relevance
of the Beautiful will be discussed. In the conclusion, some of the most important receptions of Gadamer’s philosophical aesthetic thought will be presented, which aim

AB - The paper illuminates how civil society organisations in Serbia, in the aftermath of the political changes initiated on 5 October 2000, played the essential role in articulating corruption as a vital public issue, raising awareness of the public, and putting pressure on the then governments to include this issue in the political agenda. Our analysis focuses on two planes of civil society organisations activities: 1) research efforts aimed at properly understanding the phenomenology of corruption as the first step towards sound conceptualisation of various anti-corruption measures, and 2) educational initiatives aimed at transferring knowledge and good practice in anti-corruption methodology and policies from post-industrial societies and other post-communist countries. The timeframe of our analysis embraces the period from 5 October 2000 to December 2005, which we see as the initial phase of engaging civil society organisations in anti-corruption policy in Serbia, before the National Anti-Corruption Strategy was adopted. After the changes in October 2000, civil society organizations in Serbia have acted as a significant factor in raising public awareness of corruption as well as in building anti-corruption institutional and normative infrastructure. From campaigns that targeted all stakeholders (citizens, media, business sector, decision makers) aiming at changing their priorities and interests, to participating in the set-up of public policies in the field of rule of law and monitoring the implementation of anti-corruption laws and strategic commitment, civil society organisations that operated within very wide range of activities, successfully influenced both the institutions and the general public. Despite wide range of activities and modest resources, civil society organisations had an impact on actions of the government, public institutions, and the media. The fight against corruption became one of the central issues in the then Serbia’s political debate. Yet the anti-corruption achievements of Serbian civil society organisations in the period 2000–2005, were limited due to a chronic deficit of political, professional, and moral responsibility of all social actors, resulting in “systemic error” of public policies strategic design aimed at combating corruption – the lack of a participatory political culture. The lack of a participatory political culture in citizen action has limited efficiency in achieving development policy goals, and in implementation and monitoring of public policies relevant to curbing corruption. Belief has been established, that citizens do not ask questions and therefore do not have the power to exercise policy influence nor to shape the environment in which they live. As the concept of political community is a special construct based on democracy and human rights, non-inclusiveness as previously outlined here destructively affected society by making deeper asymmetries of all kinds due to disintegrating influence that prevents the final community constitution through democratic institutions.

Equal Bodies: The Notion of the Precarious in Judith Butler's Work

AB - The aim of the article is to offer a reading of Judith Butler’s understanding of the
precarious, the notion which gives rise to her particular understanding of precarity.
The first part of the article discusses the transition from the theory of performativity
to the theory of precarity and claims that the body provides the link between a
performative act and a precarious life. The second part scrutinizes the idea of the
precarious as it appears in conjunction with life. Precariousness and precarity are
related to dispossessability and dispossession, and to a politically induced inequality.
The article concludes with a claim that the notion of the precarious offers itself as a
possible point of departure for an entirely different conceptualization of equality, and
as a strong basis for coalitional action or collective struggle. The specific positioning
of the body and the political desire for radical equality in Butler’s thought makes
theories of performativity and precarity interrelated

AB - In this paper I will offer a reading of Alberto Moreiras’ recently published books, but within the context of his life’s work as a whole: which I will consider from the point of view of a questioning of the idea of the time/ history difference. After briefly tracing that overarching concern in his early work, I move to a consideration of a move away from Hegelianism in the more recent publications. This non-Hegelianism is not simply an anti-Hegelian stance. Understanding the difference will take us into the true dimension of infrapolitics. This aspect of Moreiras’ contribution to contemporary debates will be illustrated by way of his paradoxical and unrecognizable Antigone.

Thus, in this paper, we aim to express that some of the ideas (like the idea that women and men are equally subject to moral virtue because of their rationality) and educational practices (such as those that encourage students to use their voices and reason independently from any authorities) embraced by well-known Roman Stoics did have emancipatory potential. Particularly important was a requirement that philosophy should be lived outside the classrooms.

AB - This research proposes that Foucault’s concepts of power/knowledge and genealogy constitute a significant turning point, not only in philosophical and historical terms but also in the research framework of the sociology of knowledge. The first level of Foucault’s contribution to the sociology of knowledge is widely recognized through the concept of discourse and its dimensions of materiality, power and knowledge. The second level is the analytical grid of power/knowledge itself, which focuses on the relays established between them. The third level, which we consider a crucial area open to further interpretation, is the concept of the history of the present. Although Foucault’s contribution has already been acknowledged in contemporary sociological research of knowledge, our objective is to expand on this recognition by highlighting the significance of genealogy’s dimensions to existing approaches, namely the historical sociology of knowledge and sociology of knowledge approach to discourse.

Onwards and Upwards to the Kingdom of Beauty and Love. Herbert Marcuse’s Trajectory to Socialism

AB - Socialists today can learn from Marcuse. Starting from this premise this paper discusses and elaborates on Herbert Marcuse’s trajectory to socialism. Marcuse successfully eluded the trap of “economism”, and turned to subjectivity in search of a socialist solution. The transition to socialism is possible through the creation of new anthropology expressed through the concept of “new sensibility”. The prototype of a new socialist human is an anti-superman. Peace and beauty are important characteristics of Marcuse’s socialism. “Libertarian socialism”, “feminist socialism”, “integral socialism”, “socialist humanism”, “socialism as the work of art”, and “utopian socialism” are all terms that testify to Marcuse’s open and many-faceted understanding of socialism in all of its complexity of meanings. Some of those meanings can inform debates on future prospects of socialism.
