Čitavo događanje otvoreno je koncertom hora Jevrejske opštine Novi Sad – „Hašira“ i izložbom u novosadskoj Sinagogi pod nazivom „Pisanje stradanja: vodič kroz publikacije o Holokaustu“ autorke, Bilјane Albahari i dizajnerke Ornele Rezinović.

Who Cares for Families? Narrative(s) of Return in Postsocialist Europe

AB - The introduction to the special section “Who Cares for Families? Narrative(s) of Return in Postsocialist Europe” identifies and analyzes its core concept—the narrative of return. Families of today are talked about differently, and how they are narrativized matters. The narrative that stresses that family is under threat and in need of defense or a special form of care, figuring care as restitution of natural, traditional, or family proper, is termed the narrative of return. The trope of return is strongly normative and non-descriptive, as it relies on mythical temporalities that ought to be restored in our present. The article first defines the choice of concepts—narrative, return, care, and threat. Second, it applies this conceptual frame in the transnational context, particularly within the transnational anti-gender campaigns in the populist moment. Third, it focuses on the postsocialist part of Europe, where, as the entire special section aims to demonstrate, the narrative of return gained particular currency. In Eastern Europe, these narratives are integral to larger projects of restoration of national agenda and serve as a tool of double emancipation: from the Soviet past and from the European Union present. Political actors using narrative(s) of return advocate and successfully push through fundamental changes in the political frameworks and value systems of the postsocialist countries. In sum, the article aims to demonstrate the conceptual background of a political tool.

Industrijalizacija Holokausta? (Američka) debata o instrumentalizaciji Šoe na prelomu veka

AB - In three books published at the turn of the millennium, the authors talk about the phenomenon of the pronounced presence and significance of the Holocaust in American society: Hilene Flanzbaum’s Americanization of the Holocaust (1999), Peter Novick’s Holocaust in American Life (1999) and Norman Finkelstein’s The Holocaust Industry: Reflections on the Exploitation of Jewish Suffering (2000). These works describe (and criticize) the post-Holocaust memorial world which is characterized by the commodification, commercialization and instrumentalization of the culture of remembrance. Even though each of these authors invoked/understood the term differently, the effect of their works was the introduction of the term „Holocaust industry“ into the public discourse. Today, it has has become an umbrella metaphor for a whole range of practices that represent the instrumentalization, commercialization and commodification of Holocaust remembrance. The paper deals with the process of (politicaleconomic) instrumentalization of the Holocaust, its normalization, naturalization, normativization and mechanization – in Western societies – and criticism of that process. The aim of the paper is to shed light on what is meant by the Holocaust industry and to open space for further reflection and problematization of the Holocaust discourse in the light of the warning that its current commodification and industrialization sends us.

Anti-politics as ‘culture of rejection’: the case of Serbia

AB - In this article, Fiket, Pudar Draško and Uroševic situate the notion of
‘anti-politics’ within a broader theory of ‘cultures of rejection’, redefining it as a
specific culture of rejection in the political sphere. They describe the lack of
participation of Serbian citizens in political life, their lack of trust in political
actors, institutions, democratic procedures and, in the end, in democracy itself.
They show how political elites constantly demonstrate the impotence of
institutions through various examples of ‘institutional silence’, which leads to the
further rejection of political engagement. The authors’ aim was to show that
rejection of politics is a concept that offers an adequate theoretical framework for
our empirical analyses and deeper understanding of the social phenomena
reflected in the withdrawal from political life. They present the data from
their qualitative research, based on interviews with the retail and logistics workers
in Serbia as well as an ethnographic study of digital spaces that those workers
often visit, where politics and culture meet in the discursive practices of everyday life.

AB - Precarity can be conceived as a fundamental condition of present-day journalism. This notion has primarily been utilized to describe the transformations that occurred with changing employment conditions, market flexibilization, and financial insecurity. While this has become the norm, it often overlooks nuances of precarity that journalists face, such as its bodily and political aspects. In this paper, I explore the extent to which proximity to the events and individuals journalists report on configures their experience of political precarity. To that end, I employ the concept of affective proximity, which refers to how locals navigate and reconcile their emotional and embodied entanglement within events in their country and community. The profession of journalism has traditionally been thought of as predicated on distance. However, this is not often the case for local journalists, who are not only working in but also representing and participating in the community they report on. Being physically present and belonging to that community, these journalists encounter the people they write about in streets, grocery stores, and restaurants. This paper will be based on ten semi-structured, in-depth interviews with journalists working in local media in Serbia. Centered around questions of journalists’ status in the community, the research will shed further light on the perils and risks to their political and social personhood.

Awaiting the Demise of the Liberal Order: Historicising the Crisis of Liberalism

AB - This review article analyses the merits and shortcomings of three recent works by Matthew Rose, Peter Turchin, and Krishnan Nayar about the crisis in Western liberal democracies and liberalism. By exploring the intellectual and economic causes of the crisis, these authors are trying to establish a historical model that would explain the current crisis through a comprehensive account of the development of Western societies. In doing so, they identify the detrimental role of the elites and the growing inequalities as the major factor that historically contributes to the demise of liberal values, endangering democratic rule of law. Therefore, the three books are a warning that the demise of the liberal order will bring about the resurgence of right-wing authoritarianism. However, all three authors avoid discussing the nature of liberalism as the dominant ideology in the West. This article presents a criticism of such models, arguing that any discussion of the crisis of liberalism which avoids considerations about liberalism itself and liberal ideologies, necessarily fails to encapsulate the actual experience of the crisis. In addition, these models limit history’s usefulness in interpreting the causes of the crisis and preventing its consequences.
AB - Ovaj pregledni članak analizira prednosti i nedostatke nedavno objavljenih dela Metju Rouza,
Petera Turčina i Krišnana Najara o krizi zapadnih liberalnih demokratija i liberalizma.
Kroz
to, oni identifikuju negativnu ulogu elita i rastućih nejednakosti kao glavnih faktora koji kroz
istoriju doprinose padu liberalnih vrednosti i ugrožavanju demokratske vladavine prava. Stoga,

AB - This article deals with the problem of cessation in Whitehead’s philosophy. By focusing on his Process and Reality, but also on his other works, different temporal, mereological and other aspects of perishing are analyzed, with special attention to the annihilation of subjective directness. The article also focuses on the complementary character of creation and cessation, by taking into consideration the various (subjective, objective, superjective or divine) layers of cessation. By relying upon the critical reception of Whitehead, the article formulates certain dilemmas with regard to the status of ceased events or entities, and also in relation to the general possibility and the discreet character of perishing.

AB - The paper discusses the differences between a practical emphasis on binary logic on the one hand, and modal logic, on the other, specifically in the fields of philosophical practice and psychotherapy. Although studies of practical applications of modal logic in the helping professions are recent, the discussion largely revolves around the controversial application of modality in psychotherapy by C.G. Jung and Lacan’s psychoanalysis. The present argument touches on some of the conceptual dilemmas associated with the relationship between logical modality, intuition and scientificity in psychotherapy, all of which are a part of the philosophical foundation of psychotherapy.
psihoanalizi C.G. Junga i u lakanovskoj psihoanalizi.
Svi ovi aspekti savetodavnog procesa spadaju u same filozofske
osnove psihoterapije.

Credit, Debt and Money as Social Institutions of Trust

AB - While the notions of credit, debt and money are today almost exclusively associated with economic discourse, their semantic fields prove to be significantly wider and more complex. This article seeks to restore the repressed meanings of these three notions. Its aim consists of a deconstruction of the dominant economic narratives on credit, debt, money and trust, that would show that these concepts should be primarily considered as social, rather than solely economic institutions. Therefore, in the introduction we will look at the etymology of the word credit and disclose its semantic proximity with magic as a social practice. Furthermore, the first section will examine the intrinsic relation between debt and credit, departing from Marcel Hénaff’s three types of symbolic debt and exposing how these shape the financial credit in neoliberal capitalism and install the creditor-debtor relation (such as Maurizio Lazzarato describes it) as predominant at all levels of society. The second section shows how relations of credit and debt crystallize in the notion of money: firstly by exposing some major historical and anthropological insights about money; moreover, by considering money from an onto-axiological point of view as the knot in which all social relations of trust culminate; and finally, by relating the three different types of trust in money, proposed by French heterodox economists Michel Aglietta and André Orléan, to the three forms of symbolic debt, thus showing how credit, debt and money are fundamentally anchored in social relations.

abstract = "While the notions of credit, debt and money are today almost exclusively associated with economic discourse, their semantic fields prove to be significantly wider and more complex. The second section shows how relations of credit and debt crystallize in the notion of money: firstly by exposing some major historical and anthropological insights about money; moreover, by considering money from an onto-axiological point of view as the knot in which all social relations of trust culminate; and finally, by relating the three different types of trust in money, proposed by French heterodox economists Michel Aglietta and André Orléan, to the three forms of symbolic debt, thus showing how credit, debt and money are fundamentally anchored in social relations., Dok se danas pojmovi kredit, dug i novac skoro isključivo vezuju za ekonomski diskurs, njihova semantička polja svedoče o njihovoj značajno većoj širini i kompleksnosti.

Recognition as a Counterhegemonic Strategy

AB - Building on the analyses of cultural hegemony in the works of Nancy Fraser and Wendy Brown, I argue in the paper that the historic bloc (order of cultural hegemony) of post-Fordist capitalism is characterized by a particular dynamic between several ‘axes’ of hegemony that gives rise to the ‘paradox of engagement/disengagement’. The ‘progressive-expertocratic’ axis of hegemony creates a subject-position of the ‘engaged self’, a figure embodying a certain promise of political agency that is simultaneously obstructed by other, depoliticizing axes of hegemony. This dynamic is conducive to the rise of contemporary right-wing authoritarianism, which purports to fulfill this promise of political agency through a series of displacements – the counterhegemonic left, I argue, has so far not formulated an effective alternative to this strategy. In the second part, I explore the potential of Axel Honneth’s theory of recognition, in particular his concept of ‘interpersonal respect’, for grounding a left strategy of connecting (mutually articulating) the hegemonic figure of the ‘engaged self’ with a progressive politics of social transformation. To that end, I elaborate Honneth’s perspective by means of an argument about the role of trust in the context of societal crises that Igor Cvejić, Srđan Prodanović and I have recently formulated.

Trust and ‘Being Moved’ as Forms of Engagement in Situations of Uncertainty

AB - The main aim of this paper is to put emphasis on the role of trust and the emotion of being moved in a situation of crisis. I do not intend to address the general role, or all roles, these emotions might have in a crisis situation. My focus is rather on the role of these emotions in we-formation, presupposing that mutual engagement between the actors is the crucial constituent through which first-person singular shifts to first-person plural. I rely on Bennet Helm’s argument on how trust can function as an invitation to delineate communal norms in the new circumstances of uncertainty. Accordingly, by being trusted by other(s), the addressee is entitled to the expected responsibility for a situation: (1) the addressee is entitled as a member of a group (of us who are responsible in the situation); (2) the addressee is exposed to pressure to respond to a situation with responsibility. In the second part, I adopt Cova’s and Deonna’s argument about the function of the emotion of being moved. I suggest that in such a situation “being moved” expresses the readiness to reorganize one’s hierarchy of values in the light of new circumstances of mutual dependency. Taken together, trust and being moved portray the outline of mutual engagement between the actors in a crisis situation which aims to establish new communal norms and values.

AB - In this paper, I will investigate the complex relationship between intuition, trustworthiness, and trust. I will first examine some of the more prevalent accounts of trust which either (over)emphasize the cognitive aspect of generating trustworthiness, or indeed acknowledge the importance of affects and emotions, but only as part of a neatly organized dual structure − which is in essence complementary with the cognitive understanding of how we start trusting each other. I will argue that intuitions provide a more detailed insight into trustworthiness because they are simultaneously cognitive and affective in nature. I will also consider how inferential and holistic intuitions might influence our understanding of trustworthiness, especially in times of crisis.

AB - The idea that learning liberates or that education emancipates is hardly a novelty, and it can be traced to ancient times and Ancient Greek and Roman philosophy. Thus, in this paper, we aim to express that some of the ideas (like the idea that women and men are equally subject to moral virtue because of their rationality) and educational practices (such as those that encourage students to use their voices and reason independently from any authorities) embraced by well-known Roman Stoics did have emancipatory potential. Particularly important was a requirement that philosophy should be lived outside the classrooms.

abstract = "The idea that learning liberates or that education emancipates is hardly a novelty, and it can be traced to ancient times and Ancient Greek and Roman philosophy.

AB - This work studies the concept of “victory” in war and
reconstructs various aspects that determine the conditions of this victory. At the same time, the author
attempts to raise the question of victory in the context of Orthodox Christian ethics of war. The main
emphasis is on the fact that victory in Orthodox Christian ethics of war can be interpreted not only as mili tary advantage, but also as the end of war and the
advent of peace. It is not a moment to celebrate the
victor over the vanquished, but the coming of a new
peaceful order that replaces war. At the end of the
text, the author reveals the potential for rethinking
victory contained within Orthodox Christian ethics of
war. In analyzing theological literature and folklore,
the author detects in them an interpretation of victory
that is not connected with the glorification of the victor. Rather, what is discussed is regret about victoin connection with the necessity of using violence to
achieve it and the denial of one’s role in it, as it would
be impossible without divine intervention. Victory
thus becomes a spiritual manifestation of humility
and adherence to nonviolent commandments. Such
an approach is normatively remarkable, as it requires
mercy from the winner and helps mitigate the consequences of the conflict

AB - In this paper, the authors have offered an overview of various teachings that fall
under the umbrella of humanism. Although the paper primarily focuses on the humanist doctrine, it is often not easy to distinguish the theory of humanism from humanism in practice. In both cases, it turns out that humanism is such a wide-ranging concept that perhaps it is instructive to talk about humanisms instead. Although a single review article cannot present a detailed and comprehensive history of (the idea of) humanism and all the variations it has gone through, the authors believe that this work can provide readers with a basis for understanding and a framework for further research and reflection on humanism/humanisms.

Opšte dobro, javni interes i zajedničko: konceptualna razgraničenja u istorijskoj perspektivi i savremene dileme

AB - Rad se bavi preciznijim određivanjem pojmova opšteg dobra, javnog
interesa i zajedničkog sagledavajući njihovu upotrebu u političkoj filozofiji i
vraća kolektivitet u igru, a „zajedništvo“ postaje ključni termin u rešavanju pitanja
degradacije i održivosti širokog spektra dobara.
AB - The paper endeavours to offer a closer definition of the concepts
of common good, public interest and the commons, analysing their usage in a
contemporary and historical perspective. The common good has been one of the key
subjects of moral and political philosophy since ancient times. Today, the term public
interest is often used as a synonym for the term common good. However, we will try
to show that they carry a somewhat different meaning. A recent significant echo of
the long-standing debate on the common good can be recognized in the discussions
surrounding the concept of commons, which refers to cultural, material and
intellectual resources to which all members of a community claim the right to use.
All three notions contribute to a deeper understanding of community well-being and
the way to realize that well-being. However, authors that are studied in the paper
emphasize differently the importance of the collectivity and the individual in that
process. The concept of the common good, especially for pre-modern thinkers, refers
to the good of the community from which follows the good of its members, while
the appealing to the interests of individuals is considered immoral. Later, with the
development of the concept of public interest, the individual is placed in the centre
of consideration, and the well-being of the community is brought into relation with
what is in the interest of its members. Ultimately, the notion of the commons brings
the collectivity back to focus, and “togetherness” becomes a key term in addressing
the issues of degradation and sustainability of a wide range of goods.
