Magijsko mišljenje i magijsko objašnjenje u filozofiji i psihologiji

Fatic, Aleksandar

(2023)

TY - GEN
AU - Fatic, Aleksandar
PY - 2023
UR - http://rifdt.instifdt.bg.ac.rs/123456789/3336

Georges Florovsky and St Justin Popović: Brothers in arms for the Neopatristic Synthesis

AB - The aim of the paper is to offer an overview of the long-lasting friendship between
Georges Florovsky and St Justin Popović, as well as of their common project to build
an Orthodox theological synthesis on the basis of the patristic tradition. The paper
focuses on three periods from Florovsky’s and Popović’s lives, from late 1910 and to
early 1920, from late 1920s to late 1930s, and finally on 1940s. I argue that in the first
period both authors developed their theological visions relying on Solovyov and
Florensky, on the one hand, and in opposition to the ecclesial nationalism of the
Slavophiles and conservative Orthodox hierarchs, on the other hand. Further, I
investigate how during the late 1920s and 1930s both authors searched for an
Orthodox synthesis mostly in dialogue with their Orthodox predecessors, especially
Solovyov, Florensky and Bulgakov, as well as the modern western philosophical
tradition. The focus will shift then to the 1940s, which was characterized by frequent
meetings between Florovsky and Popović in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. I argue that in this
period the Church Fathers became for both authors the golden standard for Orthodox
theology, and the idea of the neo-patristic synthesis developed in the full scale.

AB - This research is aimed to critically analyse the Yugoslav-Soviet disputes, with a specific focus on the ideological question of Party reform as a central issue in their
differing interpretations. The methodology employed involves a comparative examination of the principles of Yugoslav “democratic socialism” and Soviet “real socialism” during the period of intense labour movement debates and the peak of Yugoslavia’s internal crisis, which led to the replacement of two reformist leaderships
in 1971/1972. The study highlights the importance of the clashes between the Yugoslav aspiration for autonomous development and the Soviet hegemonic model,
with the international context playing a crucial role in intensifying the debates. The
findings underscore the significance of ideology in shaping political events and the
trajectory of social development in both countries. Ultimately, this research provides a deeper understanding of the final outcomes of the Yugoslav-Soviet disputes
and sheds light on the evolution of the Yugoslav socialist system’s attempt to present itself as a distinct “progressive” (non-Soviet) development model. The analysis
demonstrates how the dynamics of ideological differences influenced the course of
socialist development, reflecting the complexities of post-Stalinist transitions and
the implications of these disputes for broader debates about socialist modernization on the left.

The Kingdom of Yugoslavia an the return of the “planned elite“: The case of Professor Dr Đorđe Joannović

AB - The paper analyses the society of the newly created Kingdom of SCS/
Yugoslavia, which aroused great expectations from various members of the intellectual
elite. Majority of them, educated in the West as the “planned elite”, returned to the
country to help its social development. Nevertheless, the case of the Viennese professor,
the influential European pathologist and oncologist Prof Dr Đorđe Joannović (1871-
1932), although different from others, can be considered paradigmatic. Returning to
the country of his parents and leaving the comfortable life of Viennese scientific circle
Joannović devoted himself to building several medical institutions in Belgrade, from
the Faculty of Medicine to the Institute of Pathology. However, many who, like Dr
Joannović, enthusiastically came to the new country, ready to work and contribute to
its overall development, experienced severe disappointment, and even personal tragedy.
In this context, the fate of the famous doctor and distinguished Viennese professor, the
first Serbian oncologist, one of the world’s pioneers in the study of autoimmune diseases,
the founder of many medical institutions and the world-renowned scientist, is one of
the paradigms of the Yugoslav society. The strong connection with the students and
the support he provided to them, his loyalty to the principles of university autonomy
and his reluctance to put himself at the service of the authoritarian and repressive
government brought him into conflict with the bearers of the state terror of the Sixth of
January regime. From the conflicts and pressures to which he was exposed from the top
of the government, the well-known and recognised European scientist seeked salvation
in suicide.

AB - The paper analyzes the digital edition of the Erlangen Manuscript, he oldest known collection of Serbo-Croatian folk poems. Written in Cyrillic minuscule with 217 folk poems of different genres, the manuscript is dated in the third decade of the 18th century, and the most likely place of its
creation is the Habsburg Military Frontier. In the 1780s the manuscript was donated by an anonymous benefactor to the University Library in Erlangen, after which it was named. The first part of the paper presents the critical edition of the Erlangen Manuscript by the Slavicist Gerhard Gezeman (1925). The paper’s main part analyzes the critical digital edition by Mirjana Detelić et al.
(2012), whose aims were to make the Erlangen Manuscript available to a broader public with a new transliteration from the old Cyrillic to modern Serbian Cyrillic, and to contribute to its visibility in a global context. It is argued that this digital edition can serve as a model not only for the old folklore and ethnographic collections, but also for other manuscripts.

abstract = "The paper analyzes the digital edition of the Erlangen Manuscript, he oldest known collection of Serbo-Croatian folk poems.
It is argued that this digital edition can serve as a model not only for the old folklore and ethnographic collections, but also for other manuscripts.,

AB - The lecture deals with the theories of the modern state and politics that emerged in the middle of the twentieth century and can be seen as a reaction to the rise of political totalitarianism of that time. On the one hand, it points to the theses of Horkheimer and Adorno about the threat to political and social modernity caused by the mixing of Enlightenment principles with mythical thinking. In this context, Cassirer's theory is also of interest, in which the relationship between the mythical symbolic figure and modern political thought is reflected on the level of a philosophy of culture. But it also examines another way of thinking about political modernity, which starts from the continuities between the pre-modern and the modern and identifies the critically highlighted part of the pre-modern
myth as part of a historical, all-encompassing life that also includes the Enlightenment and modern political tendencies.

Rousseau and Hegel: the Many Sides of Republican Freedom

AB - Our presentation will consist of two parts. The first part will focus on the ambivalences of Rousseau's republican freedom and critique the interpretation of Rousseau offered by Isaiah Berlin. Berlin's interpretation ignores essential aspects, including the fact that the social contract itself, as the preservation of citizens, does not simply manifest positive freedom. Similarly, the more obviously republican thought, that freedom is not being subjected to the arbitrary will of other agents, embodies a complex concept of freedom. The complexity of the Rousseauian republican concept of freedom, with its multiplex combination of positive and negative aspects, is revealed when we take into consideration the various layers of Rousseau's
quadrotomy of freedom (natural freedom, civil freedom, democratic freedom, moral freedom), without resorting to reductionist interpretative strategies. Rousseau will also be analyzed as an advocate of freedom as non-domination and in the role of watching over and critiquing the government.
Based on this analysis and in light of the discussion about the positive and negative aspects of Rousseau’s conception of republican freedom, the second part will examine Hegel's critique of Rousseau. It will be demonstrated that while Hegel does indeed resolve some of the paradoxes of republican freedom, which he implicitly identified through his criticism of Rousseau, he introduces new ones within his political philosophy. At the same time, it will be shown that when the negative aspect of Rousseau's conception of republican freedom is taken into account some of Hegel's criticisms directed at Rousseau’s ‘general will’ have merit and cannot be reduced to a mere misreading as is often done.

AB - The intersection of art and technology has reached unprecedented heights, with digital technologies emerging as novel tools and collaborators in the realm of artistic creation. How do artists navigate the intricate web of challenges (concerns of authenticity, authorship, and copyright) while embracing the potential of digital collaboration and appropriation?
From ‘isolated genius’ to ‘entrepreneur’, the fusion of art and technology has redefined what it means to be an artist, with tasks such as coding, digital rendering, data analysis, as well as social networking, becoming as crucial as traditional craftsmanship.
Through a chronological exploration of pivotal moments, Jelena Guga will uncover how artists have not merely reacted to digital trends but actively forged new pathways, redefining their identity and impact and unveiling a narrative of adaptability, innovation, and reflection.
