AB - Objective: Times of societal crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, during which people need to make sense of a chaotic world and to protect their health and lives, according to psychological research, represent suitable ground for the development of conspiracy theories about origins, spread, and treatment of the threat (coronavirus). Although numerous studies have been conducted on this issue since the beginning of the pandemic until today, most of the studies were conducted on the adult population with limited insights into development of the conspiracy beliefs in adolescence or over the lifespan. Objective of this study is precisely to explore how conspiracy beliefs regarding COVID-19 pandemic differentiate between multiple age groups (cross-sectional design), what are their sources and contexts, and how do they relate with the tendency to trust the government.
Methodology: Data were gathered through eight focus group discussions with four age groups (11-12, 14-15, 18-19, 30+) in Serbia.
Results: Based on critical discourse analysis, this paper identifies the differences in content and the
sources of conspiracy thinking and how it relates to trust in the government. Study shows that high
distrust in Serbian government is associated with conspiracy beliefs both within youth and adults.
However, while among adolescents this finding is exclusively related with their beliefs that ruling
structures have financial gain from the pandemic, against the interests of citizens, among adults it is related to the belief that the government (un)intentionally submits to the new global order that is
managed by one or more powerful actors who are coordinated in secret action to achieve an outcome that is of public interest, but not public knowledge.
Conclusion: The results will be discussed within current socio-political climate in Serbia, as well as the basis for understanding psychological factors which may underlie these tendencies in conspiracy theorizing, such as social identification, collective narcissism, authoritarianism, and social dominance orientation.

AB - Trust is a precondition of functional relationships and cohesive societies. Various studies point out the significance of the interaction between cognitive and affective dimensions in attempts to understand interpersonal and political trust. Further, the literature suggests that there is a leap between interpersonal and political trust, since the former is more direct, but also that the two are interlinked. However, the developmental dynamic between the emotional and the rational dimension in constructing interpersonal and political trust remains understudied. Additionally, most psychological research on determinants, correlates, and dimensions of trust is quantitative and neglects the substantive importance of social context in its development. The current research aims to bridge these gaps by providing in-depth insight into the processes of construction of interpersonal and political trust among different age groups and across three European countries. The sample, recruited via purposive and snowball sampling, consisted of a total of 119 participants (F=60) from four age groups (11-12; 14-15; 18-19; 30+) from Italy, the Czech Republic, and Serbia. A total of 24 focus groups (two per age group, eight per country) were conducted online, providing qualitative data on how participants construct their trust in interpersonal relationships and in the government. The results of the thematic analyses conducted separately for all countries expose two independent dimensions of trust building: emotional and rational. Furthermore, it shows that interpersonal trust is built primarily on the emotional basis (closeness, care, reciprocity, familiarity, sharing), while political trust is mostly built on the rational one (the assessment of knowledge, competence, and expertise of the authorities). However, the two are interlinked and can have a spillover effect so that when, e.g., a public official represents a familiar figure, the sense of familiarity, despite its centrality for interpersonal trust, can incite political trust. The findings will be discussed considering the differences between age groups and social contexts of the three countries.

AB - Is sexist humor in academia a form of gender-based violence and discrimination, or is it just harmless fun? How is sexist humor related to gender stereotypes and does it foster an organizational culture of tolerance of sexism? The above questions form a summary of the part of the research on gender-based violence conducted at 18 universities in four Balkan countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro in the period 2021/22 among the teaching and administrative staff and student population. Based on this research, we analyze the perceptions of sexist comments and humor among women and men at universities, the functions of such humor, as well as ways of reacting to sexist humor, that is, to gender-based violence and discrimination expressed through it.

AB - Extreme situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic transparently show all the shortcomings of the Serbian system that should, in theory, provide support and protection to citizens in such circumstances. A particularly demanding task was to determine and measure the well-being of individuals during the pandemic, especially those from marginalized groups whose needs are not the priority to the system even under regular circumstances, those on the bottom of the social hierarchy who cannot influence the policies that shape their daily lives, or the decisions of authorities that further reproduce social inequalities. The paper examines institutional ethics of care during the pandemic in Serbia through the analysis of the adequacy of lockdown measures and their effects on the girls and women trafficking survivors. Analysis of the data collected in semi-structured interviews with girls and women showed that three central elements of the institutional (ethics of) care: the purpose of care, recognition of power relations, and the need for pluralistic tailoring of care to meet individuals’ needs, were not fulfilled during the pandemic and that the logic of institutional care has had a politicizing character in Serbia.
logika institucionalne brige u Srbiji zapravo imala politizujući karakter.

AB - This paper focuses on sexist attitudes and behaviors in the academic community that represent barriers to the development of women’s academic careers and affect the visibility of their academic contributions in the long run. From the perspective of both male and female interviewees, the observed sexism directed towards female academic workers hinders their career advancement and undermines the
possibility of both women’s solidarity and radical systemic change. Sexism wrapped up in seemingly meritocratic principles supports patriarchal academic culture by making the academic contributions of female academic workers less visible in the long run. Th e analysis is based on empirical insights from exploratory research conducted in 2017 on a sample of women academic workers engaged at state universities in Niš, Novi Pazar, Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Belgrade, and focuses on the question: what factors lead to academic culture expressing benevolent and / or hostile sexism towards female academic workers, which indirectly affects the invisibility of the academic contributions of academic workers in Serbia.

AB - This paper focuses on the process of gender socialization of boys, examined through parenting practices of mothers and fathers in the contemporary socio-cultural context of Serbia. The analysis is based on empirical material collected via semi-structured interviews during 2012 on a sample of 24 families with children aged 2 to 12. The constant comparative analysis (grounded theory method) includes attitudes and actions of parents of boys and girls (as a control group) in the process of family gender socialization, and enables interpretation of boys’ gender socialization models on a continuum ranging from traditional to modern upbringing practices of parents. The research shows that parental practices in modern-day Serbia are still primarily traditional. Of the three distinct models of boys’ gender socialization (traditional, transitional and participatory), the last two represent a step forward in the direction of the individualization of parenthood and more egalitarian gender socialization patterns influenced primarily by partner relationship dynamics. These dynamics are initiated by mothers’ reflexiveness and the transformation of the concept of the “sacrificing motherhood”. The dynamic of partner relationships thus shifts in the direction of “sacrificing fatherhood”, that is, a father’s renunciation of a part of the privileges he enjoyed before entering the responsibilities within the household. Interactions with the social environment (and perceived changes in it), as well as interactions with the family of origin are crucial elements in whose interrelation the upbringing practices of parents are built and within which gender socialization of boys takes place in the socio-cultural context of contemporary families in Serbia.

AB - According to the results of various studies, women remain responsible
for most household duties. Th is distribution is also refl ected in the position
of women in academia, since the family-dominant model tends to be reproduced within the academic community as well. Th is imbalance is refl ected
in the distribution of “lower rank” jobs in academia, and the shift ing of most
responsibilities for such jobs to women, leaving men with more time to pursue academic work. Th is situation, originating in the issue of family responsibilities, actually raises academic questions. Th e analysis in the paper is based
on empirical insights from a 2017 survey conducted among academic staff at
the University of Belgrade, and focuses on the following question: what factors lead to engagements within the family which seek to change patriarchal
patterns as expressed in the unequal distribution of domestic and family care
work, and which indirectly aff ect the distribution of responsibilities between
men and women in the academic sphere?

AB - According to the results of various studies, women remain responsible for most household duties. This distribution is also reflected in the position of women in academia, since the family-dominant model tends to be reproduced within the academic community as well. This imbalance is reflected in the distribution of “lower rank” jobs in academia, and the shifting of most responsibilities for such jobs to women, leaving men with more time to pursue academic work. This situation, originating in the issue of family responsibilities, actually raises academic questions. The analysis in the paper is based on empirical insights from a 2017 survey conducted among academic staff at the University of Belgrade, and focuses on the following question: what factors lead to engagements within the family which seek to change patriarchal patterns as expressed in the unequal distribution of domestic and family care work, and which indirectly affect the distribution of responsibilities between men and women in the academic sphere?

AB - This article presents an attempt to approach the dispute over Kosovo
between Serbs and Albanians from a non-territorial perspective, with
particular focus on the preservation of the Serbian cultural and religious
heritage. First, we argue that the Kosovo issue is at present commonly
understood as an either-or territorial dispute over sovereignty and
recognition between Serbian and Kosovo Albanian politicians. However,
we claim that a lasting resolution to the Kosovo issue actually needs to
account for at least three separate aspects: 1) status of Northern Kosovo
which is ethnically Serbian and still maintains various ties with the Serbian
state, 2) status of Serbian cultural and religious heritage, chiefly UNESCO
world heritage Serbian medieval monasteries and churches and 3) the
fact that the Serbian population in central Kosovo, i.e. south of the river
Ibar, where most of the mentioned monasteries and churches are located,
are located in small municipalities or enclaves of Serbs surrounded by
vast Albanian populations. We examine the applicability of the non–
territorial approach (NTA) to the Kosovo issue by analyzing the normative
framework directly regulating the Serbian cultural and religious heritage
in Kosovo, its preservation and protection, particularly of Serbian Orthodox
monasteries, churches and other historical and cultural sites, while
comparing these regulations to the existing normative NTAs in Croatia
and Montenegro. Arguably, since most Serbian monasteries and churches
are not included in any sovereignty negotiations, we point to the potential
to combine territorial and non–territorial approaches, regardless of the
continued obstacles in implementation arising from continued contestation
of Kosovo’s sovereign status.
Primenljivost NTA koncepta
Hrvatske i Crne Gore.

The Limits of Individualizing Parenthood in Serbia: Study of Gender Socialization of Children

AB - This paper seeks to explore the limits of individualizing parenthood in Serbia, gleaned from the example of gender socialization of children. The main thesis is that the noted limits to individualization of parenthood in contemporary society have a particular Serbian manifestation due to the country’s familism. The study traces the ideology of familism through normative aspects of gender structures within contemporary Serbian society, that is, by analyzing the presence and forms of expression of the patriarchal matrix in upbringing practices of parents, the most significant element of which is the ethics of good parenthood. The analysis shows that individualization of parenthood and more egalitarian patterns of gender socialization occur above all due to the dynamic within the marital relationship, one which abandons the concept of sacrificial parenthood. The analysis presented here is based on data collected in empirical research of upbringing practices in contemporary Serbia.

Razumevanje koncepta rodne ravnopravnosti u normativnom okviru visokog obrazovanja u Srbiji

AB - Since 2000, a number of legal and political measures and mechanisms
have been implemented to advance gender equality in research and higher education
institutions in Serbia, mainly as a part of the process of harmonisation of legislation
with the EU standards on gender equality. However, while on one side the relatively
high score on the Gender Equality Index is often evoked in political discourse to support
the claim that Serbia is doing well regarding gender equality in higher education, most
of the empirical research done in Serbia reveales persistent gender inequalities, gendered
career possibilities, and unequal working conditions in academia for women and men.
Originating from those contradictary assertations, our main research interest in this
chapter is concerned with the way in which the concept of gender equality is understood
in the normative frame of Serbia. Our hypothesis is that gender inequalities in the
academic sphere are acctually supported by the way in which the concept of gender
equality is framed in the Serbian normative order.
Our study will be based on the analyses of documents that form the normative
framework of gender equality in higher education in Serbia. In addition, we will analyse
the data gathered in interviews with the academics of the University of Belgrade. Hence,
an inappropriate normative framework will be detected, explored, and additionally
explained through its visible practical implications

high score on the Gender Equality Index is often evoked in political discourse to support the claim that Serbia is doing well regarding gender equality in higher education, most
of the empirical research done in Serbia reveals persistent gender inequalities, gendered
career possibilities, and unequal working conditions in academia for women and men.
Originating from those contradictory assertations, our main research interest in this chapter is concerned with the way in which the concept of gender equality is understood
in the normative frame of Serbia. Our hypothesis is that gender inequalities in the academic sphere are actually supported by the way in which the concept of gender
equality is framed in the Serbian normative order.
Our study will be based on the analyses of documents that form the normative
framework of gender equality in higher education in Serbia. In addition, we will analyze the data gathered in interviews with the academics of the University of Belgrade. Hence,
an inappropriate normative framework will be detected, explored, and additionally
explained through its visible practical implications.

Rodna socijalizacija dečaka u porodicama u savremenoj Srbiji. Istraživanje stavova i vaspitnih praksi roditelja

uporednim metodom izdvoje obrasci rodne socijalizacije dečaka u okviru konteksta
modernih vaspitnih praksi roditelja).
Teorijski okvir istraživanja čine teorije refleksivne modernizacije i teorije
patrijarhata.
režima i njihove transmisije kroz proces rodne socijalizacije.
individualizacije roditeljstva i egalitarnijih obrazaca rodne socijalizacije, a nastaju pre
AB - The subject of this research is gender socialization of boys aged 2 to 12, explored through parenting practices of mothers and fathers in modern-day Serbia. The general purpose of this research is a sociological analysis of the process of boys’ gender socialization within the contemporary Serbian socio-cultural context. Two particular research goals are singled out: analytical (to detect differences between upbringing practices of fathers and mothers, as well as socio-cultural and family dimensions that lead to these differences), and interpretative (to reconstruct boys’ gender socialization models within the context of Serbia, using continuous comparative method, as well as to position detected models on the continuum from the particularly traditional to the particularly modern upbringing practices of parents). The theoretical framework of this research is based on the theories of reflexive modernization and the theories of the patriarchy. The theories of reflexive modernization are used to explain the process of the individualization of parenting, while the theories of patriarchy explain the normative gender regimes and their transmission via the gender socialization process. The theoretical framework applied here contextualizes the subject of this study and enables the interpretation of the boys’ gender socialization models on a continuum ranging from traditional to modern upbringing practices of parents. The research show that parental practices are primarily traditional. Of the three distinct models of boys’ gender socialization, two represent a step forward in the direction of the individualization of parenthood and more egalitarian gender socialization patterns influenced primarily by partner relationships dynamics, initiated by mothers’ reflexiveness and the transformation of the concept of the “sacrificing motherhood”. The dynamic of partner relationships thus shifts in the direction of “sacrificing fatherhood” that is a father’s renunciation of a part of the privileges he enjoyed before entering the responsibilities within the household.
