AB - Trust is a precondition of functional relationships and cohesive societies. Various studies point out the significance of the interaction between cognitive and affective dimensions in attempts to understand interpersonal and political trust. Further, the literature suggests that there is a leap between interpersonal and political trust, since the former is more direct, but also that the two are interlinked. However, the developmental dynamic between the emotional and the rational dimension in constructing interpersonal and political trust remains understudied. Additionally, most psychological research on determinants, correlates, and dimensions of trust is quantitative and neglects the substantive importance of social context in its development. The current research aims to bridge these gaps by providing in-depth insight into the processes of construction of interpersonal and political trust among different age groups and across three European countries. The sample, recruited via purposive and snowball sampling, consisted of a total of 119 participants (F=60) from four age groups (11-12; 14-15; 18-19; 30+) from Italy, the Czech Republic, and Serbia. A total of 24 focus groups (two per age group, eight per country) were conducted online, providing qualitative data on how participants construct their trust in interpersonal relationships and in the government. The results of the thematic analyses conducted separately for all countries expose two independent dimensions of trust building: emotional and rational. Furthermore, it shows that interpersonal trust is built primarily on the emotional basis (closeness, care, reciprocity, familiarity, sharing), while political trust is mostly built on the rational one (the assessment of knowledge, competence, and expertise of the authorities). However, the two are interlinked and can have a spillover effect so that when, e.g., a public official represents a familiar figure, the sense of familiarity, despite its centrality for interpersonal trust, can incite political trust. The findings will be discussed considering the differences between age groups and social contexts of the three countries.

AB - This paper will primarily focus on the philosophical depictions of Medea’s character and actions. The following identities will be examined: gender (which roles defined a woman in antiquity and are these definitions still relevant today), political (what does it mean to be a foreigner and not belong to a particular political community), and psychological (do passions inevitably lead to a split in the psyche or, on the contrary, constitute it). These will serve as frames that outline Medea’s exceptional (in)humanness in the Greco-Roman society.

AB - Objective: Times of societal crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, during which people need to make sense of a chaotic world and to protect their health and lives, according to psychological research, represent suitable ground for the development of conspiracy theories about origins, spread, and treatment of the threat (coronavirus). Although numerous studies have been conducted on this issue since the beginning of the pandemic until today, most of the studies were conducted on the adult population with limited insights into development of the conspiracy beliefs in adolescence or over the lifespan. Objective of this study is precisely to explore how conspiracy beliefs regarding COVID-19 pandemic differentiate between multiple age groups (cross-sectional design), what are their sources and contexts, and how do they relate with the tendency to trust the government.
Methodology: Data were gathered through eight focus group discussions with four age groups (11-12, 14-15, 18-19, 30+) in Serbia.
Results: Based on critical discourse analysis, this paper identifies the differences in content and the
sources of conspiracy thinking and how it relates to trust in the government. Study shows that high
distrust in Serbian government is associated with conspiracy beliefs both within youth and adults.
However, while among adolescents this finding is exclusively related with their beliefs that ruling
structures have financial gain from the pandemic, against the interests of citizens, among adults it is related to the belief that the government (un)intentionally submits to the new global order that is
managed by one or more powerful actors who are coordinated in secret action to achieve an outcome that is of public interest, but not public knowledge.
Conclusion: The results will be discussed within current socio-political climate in Serbia, as well as the basis for understanding psychological factors which may underlie these tendencies in conspiracy theorizing, such as social identification, collective narcissism, authoritarianism, and social dominance orientation.

AB - In many parts of the world, journalists work in increasingly hostile environments. To better understand the characteristics and implications of hostility against the press in a hybrid regime, this study explores how journalists in Serbia perceive and experience anti-press hate speech. Based on 20 interviews with diverse reporters, we describe hate speech against journalists as an ad hominem attack triggered by the very nature of journalistic conduct. We discuss two identified mechanisms of hate speech propagation. The first, machinery of hate speech, refers to orchestrated attacks on independent journalists by ruling party officials, pro-government news outlets, and troll armies. In contrast, the lone-wolf-haters mechanism refers to authentic and sporadic expressions of hate by extreme partisan audiences to which all journalists are susceptible, regardless of their affiliation. Describing their personal experiences, the participants report various responses to encountering hate speech, ranging from immediate emotions to less immediate psychological reactions to physical health problems. To prevent hateful acts from interfering with their journalistic performance, they rely on a variety of coping strategies and mechanisms, including psychological and professional strategies, as well as social and institutional support.

The Effects of Deliberation on Citizen Knowledge, Attitudes and Preferences: A Case Study of a Belgrade Deliberative Mini Public

AB - Participation in deliberative arenas is often lauded for its transformative impact on citizens’ attitudes, sense of agency and ability to formulate concrete policy proposals. The focus of this paper is the first ever deliberative mini public in Belgrade, centred on the topic of expanding the pedestrian zone and rerouting traffic in the city core. By relying on a set of qualitative and quantitative data collected before and after the deliberation, we aim to explore the effects of the public deliberation on the participants’ knowledge, attitudes and preferences. Our hypothesis was that participation in this deliberative process led to better understanding (enhanced knowledge) of the discussed topic and change in attitudes and preferences regarding its realization. The scope of this study is limited, given the non-experimental design and small sample. Overall, the results indicate that participants` knowledge on the topic of deliberation is enhanced, becoming more precise, elaborate and encompassing different perspectives. As for the attitudes and preferences, in most cases, around two-thirds of the sample changed their positions, while about a third of the sample changed sides, mostly agreeing less with the expansion of the pedestrian zone. The findings support the conclusion that, on a local level, deliberation has the capacity to inform and enhance competence for greater political participation.

Miris ajvara i miris lavande.

dekonstrukcija, osoba).
AB - The subject of this paper is social-scientific methodology collective
memory-work and its relevance for psychological inquiry. The aim is to present it
through elaboration of its historical and theoretical foundations and assumptions,
as well as practical guidance for research. From the original idea until current
literature, chosen aspects of this methodology are considered within certain
theoretical frameworks and debates, with accompanying dilemmas, which is
why the paper has polemic character. Introduction outlines the relevance of this
methodology, as well as the relevance of the paper, as the first elaborated review
of this subject in regional languages. Next follows the historical look at the
pioneering project of collective memory-work, its feminist-Marxist background,
as well as consideration of several theoretical aspects (subjectification, memories,
experience and theory, collective deconstruction, person). Basic assumptions of
the memory-work are derived from previous discussion and presented separately.
The next section contains main directions of development and applications of the
methodology, considerations relevant for psychological topics, and comparison with
similar methodologies. Subsequent is the practical part of the paper, where the
basic guidance for research is offered through progressive sequencing of the research
phases. Finally, dilemmas regarding evaluation criteria for collective memory-work
are discussed. In the conclusion, the place and relevance of this methodology for
social-scientific and psychological research are summarized.

Becoming an Ethnic Subject. Cultural-Psychological Theory of Ethnic Identification

Đorđević, Ana

AB - This paper offers an alternative theoretical consideration of ethnic identification in psychology. Mainstream social psychological theories are largely positivist and individualistic. New possibilities of theoretical understanding open up as the relational and symbolic nature of ethnicity enters psychological inquiry. This paper takes culture and self as two conceptual domains of social identification, following a meta-theoretical position of cultural psychology. The central focus is the cultural development of the person in social context of a given culture, specifically their ethnic identification, to which end, it looks at several processual aspects. First, ethnic culture is approached as a guiding principle and practice in everyday understanding and experience of one’s own ethnicity. Second, ethnic identification is considered a social and personal act of meaning making, which happens in a given social context, through practical activity and the discursive positioning of a person. Third, since rather than considered a conscious aspect of belonging, ethnicity is assumed and taken for granted, ruptures are considered as destabilizing events that create an opportunity for ethnic meaning reinterpretation and developmental transition. In the meaning making process, symbolic resources are conceived of as primary self-configuring tools, which are also culture[1]configuring. Ethnic meaning making is theorized as a central social[1]psychological process through which ethnic culture and a person as an ethnic subject emerge in historical perspective. Finally, the uniqueness of a singular person in the shared ethnic culture is conceptualized based on symbolic distancing from the immediate social context, through the model of knitting personal and socio-historical semiotic threads.
AB - Ovaj rad nudi alternativno teorijsko razmatranje etničke identifikacije u psihologiji. Glavne

AB - The Schwartz theory of basic values is the leading model in psychological research. However, few studies qualitatively approach how people make sense of value types. We propose a way to investigate this by focusing on emerging adulthood, a developmental period of exploration. Furthermore, participants are situated in the context of Balkan societies that are characterized by transitions. Relying on personal construct theory, we explored potential interpretations of values, their subordinate constructs, diversity, valence, and similarity to the definitions proposed in the theory. We used pyramiding in order to prompt constructs subordinate to each of the ten values. We applied thematic analysis to identify subordinate constructs in the 5866 responses obtained from 281 participants. The results show that participants understand abstract values through constructs that refer to specific actions, feelings, and personality traits. The values varied in the number of subordinate constructs and the degree of their deviation from the conceptual definition. There are also differences in the connotations of values or their desirability. Results show that all values, except Universalism, have a subordinate construct that expresses the negative side of the value. This study offers a more contextualized and content-oriented approach to values and has implications for future studies.

AB - Introduction
The text explains the application of the Collective Memory-Work (CMW)
method in two projects in Serbia, considering the authors’ original fields –
gender studies and psychology, as well as the objectives of their
individual research projects. The paper also observes ways to make CMW
useful for understanding socialization through gender and ethnic
identities, both at the micro plane of the individual, and on the collective
plane of the social group. Both approaches help improve understanding
of the ways in which gender patterns and regimes, as well as nationalistic
identity politics, multiply and perpetuate.

AB - The subject of this study are ethnic identifications of young citizens of Serbia. The aim is to empirically investigate how ethnic identifications are construed in the social context through the interaction between the person and other actors within specific socio-cultural practices. Cultural psychological theoretical framework and qualitative research approach were adopted. The collective memory-work methodology was used in order to provoke young people to reflect upon their ethnic affiliation. Research participation was primarily based on the collective generation and deconstruction of written personal memories. An additional study was conducted for the purpose of validation and extension of the insights, with the same type of data, but with an individual approach to analysis. Purposive sampling strategy was applied, by using Serbian citizenship and belonging to the generation born in the 1990s as the inclusion criteria. Nine participant-researchers, including the author herself, collaborated in the main research, while a total of 42 people participated in the second research, and the sample was balanced by gender.
The results have been presented in three segments, across different approaches to critical discourse analysis. First, the results of the collective analysis of individual memories are presented. The second part is dedicated to comparative analysis of memories, where two main aspects have been analyzed in detail: the socio-cultural framework (contexts, practices, and mediators), on one side, and the processes of ethnic identifications, on the other. The third part of the chapter represents the extension of the previous analysis, through the analysis of memories collected in the second research, which identified six aspects of ethnic identification construction: being on one’s own, with one’s own people; childhood in the midst of crisis; encounters with (and separations from) the Others; being better than the Others; distancing from the national; fighting for… The findings indicate various dynamics of ethnic identification within the social context and broader social-political events. The significance of memories for the (re)construction of personal experience and meanings has been discussed, as well as the problems of agency and belonging.

AB - Teorijske osnove i poreklo pristupa. Drugim rečima, mi aktivno prisvajamo socijalne strukture i odnose, „nosimo ih, osmišljavamo ih, zaplićemo se u njih, i kroz to postajemo ko smo“ (Stephenson, 2005: 35).

AB - In this study, we investigated the predictive power of social identity complexity and inclusiveness on attitudes towards outgroups, the impact of a social norm on social identity complexity and inclusiveness, and their mediating role in the relationship between social norm and attitudes towards outgroups. Social identity complexity refers to individual's subjective representation of interrelationships between his/ her multiple social identities. Social identity inclusiveness refers to individual's identification with other people based on mutual group membership. We opted for national, ethnic and religious ingroups and outgrops. A total of 153 respondents (36% male), average age of 26, filled in the questionnaire. Results show that inclusiveness, unlike complexity, strongly predicts outgroup acceptance, measured with feelings thermometer and social distance scale. In the experimental phase of the study, we tried to induce changes in outgroup acceptance by presenting descriptive social norm to selected participants (N = 40) with lower initial acceptance. We also investigated mediating role of the perception of one's own ingroup boundaries (complexity and inclusiveness) in this process. Exposure to social norm, presented in the form of fictive scientific report, improved outgroup acceptance, but unexpectedly decreased social identity complexity. This might be due to the fact that the way in which social norm was designed has threatened distinctiveness of our respondents' identity, which consequently led to less complex perception of their own ingroup boundaries. For further research, we suggested introducing more specific interventions that would directly influence social identity complexity and should be compared among different groups.

AB - The aim of the present study lies in an effort of converging anthropological, ethnomusicological and psychological approach to the relationship between music and collective identity. Music is considered a socio-cultural artifact, which mediates the processes of collective identity construction, and whose function in such process can be multiple. In order to understand the ways in which it is sutured into (in)formal processes of collective (self)identification, we propose simultaneous consideration of various dimensions: cultural, social, political, psychological. Although there already has been interdisciplinary research of the role of music in the emergence of identity, we advocate for a more complementary approach, by a consideration of the psychological accounts, adjusted to the needs of ethno-anthropological analysis. As the most comprehensive theoretical approach, we propose cultural psychology of music. Future empirical research on specific identity processes mediation by music as cultural artifact, should include the analysis of intersecting local and global social trends, aspects of musicological analysis, specificities of psychological development of identity, the role of socio-political strategies of identity formation, and, last but not least, cultural specificity of the community in focus of the research. We find the complexity of the phenomenon in focus to be obligatory for the complexity of the theoretical and methodological approach.

AB - Ethnic group is a forced social category usually thought of in terms of essence in everyday life and in
psychological theory. Essentializing is a powerful representational tool which fuels ethnocentrism,
xenophobia and discrimination. In this paper, I will argue that practical and analytical discourse of
identity, difference and exclusion, serves as carrier of essentialist views on ethnic group membership.
If the group is seen as natural and unchangeable, and if one cannot choose whether or not to belong
to a certain ethnic group, then ethnic membership can only be seen as unchangeable, natural and
stable, i.e. permanent part of one`s identity. Identity language practice in turn (re)produces simplified
essentialist views on ethnicity hindering the possibility of alternative understanding. Consequentially,
it leaves no room to human agency in thinking and acting as members of ethnic groups, and obstructs
possible ways of social change.
Contrary to aforementioned, I propose theorizing ethnic identity as the process of subjectification, the
process by which individuals construct themselves into existing relations they themselves do not
consciously determine, but to which they subordinate themselves. It is through active participation in
psycho-discursive practices that people become and are made ethnic beings, thereby producing
ethnicity itself. The taken-for-granted of ethnic identity comes under scrutiny as people become
engaged in process of defining who and how they are as collective. Deconstruction of identity
language exposes ethnicity as socio-culturally constructed rather than essentially natural, and creates
space for different participation in meaning-making processes. Theoretical and practical implications
will be discussed.
