AB  - Debating the interpretation of the Burgess Shale fossil records, Stephen Jay Gould and Simon Conway Morris have formulated two conflicting theses regarding the nature of evolutionary processes. While Gould argued that evolution is essentially a contingent process whose outcomes are unpredictable, Conway Morris claimed that the omnipresence of convergence testifies that it is in fact deterministic, leading to predictable and inevitable outcomes. Their theses have been extensively researched from various perspectives. However, a systematic parallel analysis of the core arguments each of them offered in support of their thesis has been lacking. I argue Conway Morris has successfully exposed the core weaknesses of Gould’s thesis and offered a comprehensive account in favor of the major role of convergence in evolutionary history. On the other hand, I will point out some of the weak points in the latter’s arguments supporting the
deterministic view of life’s evolution. Although Conway Morris has been more successful in arguing for the deterministic nature of the evolutionary processes, both theses could be improved if their shortcomings are taken into consideration.

AB  - The paper examines whether St Gregory Palamas could be attributed with teaching some sort of the doctrinal development. That this is the case has been argued in various forms by theologians and scholars of the 20th century, both those who have criticized Palamas and those who have often been regarded as representatives of what is called the Neo-Palamite theology of the Orthodox Church. Such thesis has relied heavily on his use of the term anaptyxis in the Tomos of the 1351. Synod. In the paper it is argued that such self-understanding of his relation to the patristic tradition cannot be justified by textual evidence. Through the analysis of the Tomos of 1341, his polemical writings against Gregory Akindynos and the Tomos of 1351 it is shown that Palamas consistently presented his own teaching as a faithful exposition of the words of the Holy Fathers rather than their development.

AB  - It has been noted that Thomas F. Torrance read and interpreted the Holy Fathers not as a patristic scholar, but as a systematic theologian. Furthermore, the point is made that we ought not to blame him for making occasional interpretations of the patristic texts that cannot be supported by strict textual evidence because his goal was never to engage in the historical endeavor but the systematic one. I argue that ‘systematic reading’ cannot be an excuse for arbitrary interpretations of the patristic texts and that every systematic reading must be firmly grounded in the historical explorations of the texts. I examine three cases in which Torrance’s reading of the patristic texts cannot be supported by patristic scholarship: development of what he calls ‘kataphysic mode of inquiry’ by Clement of Alexandria and Athanasius of Alexandria, and of the relational concept of space in Athanasius of Alexandria. У ту сврху, анализирано је позивање на списе цариградског архиепископа у два значајна флорилегија који означавају почетак и завршетак овог процеса. AB  - It is commonly believed that the twentieth century was marked by the advance of science. Established in all its ields, primarily in the ield of natural and technical sciences,
the progress was evident in the ield of research of human brain which included the sub
disciplines such as: neurology, psychology, cognitive sciences (to mention just a few of
the most prominent ones) as well as sub disciplines of each of these. Naturally, the topic of the human brain functioning has always embraced the studies of relations between
human brain and one of the speciic forms of human experience and the globally most
widespread element of culture – religion. This resulted in having the research of this topic – the relation between the brain, its structure and activities, on one hand, and religion
in all its manifestations on the other – becoming a speciic and unique ield of research
with the attempts to evolve into an autonomous discipline. For the purpose of uniting
two completely different sciences, a key word, a neologism, has been forged to name
such a discipline – “neurortheology”.

AB  - У раду аутор покушава да преиспита тезу према којој природна теологија, као продукт западног ума, представља непознаницу за православну теолошку традицију. Усмеравајући се на четворицу најважнијих отаца IV века који су пресудно утицали на формирање теологије православне Цркве: Атанасија Великог, Василија Великог, Григорија Богослова и Григорија Ниског, аутор истражује у којој мери се у њиховим основним делима могу пронаћи елементи и главне поставке природне теологије. Тако се најпре испитује њихово учење о човеку као икони Божијој, на основу ког се приказују могућности богопознања заснованог на самосагледавању. Потом се анализира како су и у којој мери оци са својим савременицима – незнабошцима, делили сам концепт божанства. Надаље се истражују могућности за заснивање морала на темељу човекове природе и поретка космоса. Поставља се питање да ли, и у којој мери, природа открива Бога, какав однос између Творца и твари стоји иза тога, каквог је карактера сазнање које се на тај начин о Богу стиче, те до које мере се у теолошком говору може употребљавати аналогија између Бога и створеног света. Напослетку, испитује се однос отаца према највишим достигнућима ’природног разума’ тог времена – јелинској паидеји – и њен однос према откривеној истини. На самом крају, аутор настоји да дâ одговор на питање: да ли се може, и на који начин говорити о природној теологији наведених отаца Цркве.
