The Dualism of practical reason and the autonomy Sidgwick’s pessimism and Kant’s pptimism

AB - The question this paper is concerned with is: what if Immanuel Kant found a solution to the problem of the dualism of practical reason before Henry Sidgwick even came to formulate it? A comparison of Sidgwick’s and Kant’s approach to the problem of the dualism of practical reason is presented only in general terms, but the author concludes that this is sufficient for grasping the advantage of Kant’s solution to the problem.

Self–Education and University

AB - In an attempt to articulate the link between the “ideas” of university and selfeducation, the authors of this paper firstly set forth the classical understanding of education that precedes the conception of selfeducation. The second part deals with Nietzsche’s rigorous under standing of selfeducation as the most consequent and most farreaching intervention in the concept of education so far. The third part is exploring the example of Derrida’s wavering in regard to university activity and efficacity and signals the modern “antinomies” of legitimising its status. It is concluded that not only exterior challenges, but also the paradoxical tasks a university sets for itself, appertain to the very constitution of the university model which readily relied on the tradition of selfeducation, and that the relation between the visions of university and selfeducation, is not devoid of intrinsic tensions, though it is often thought of these as mutually underpinning.

A gap that may arise between the “cognitive” and so-called “moral” enhancement points precisely to this fact. This article shows that, contrary to the intentions of its supporters, the idea according to which moral enhancement has precedence over cognitive enhancement is essentially just a new form of undermining human freedom.

AB - Although the "anthroponomical question“ (as Kant has named it) is one of the oldest philosophical questions, the concept of „anthroponomy“ was never treated in philosophy as it deserves. However, anthroponomy, as a theory about what a man should or could be, was never neglected. In this article the author confines himself to analysis of Kant’s, Nietzsche’s and Sloterdijk’s anthroponomical sketches.

de la morale et de la politique. Cependant, la conception hobbesienne de la justice ne se laisse pas développer sans faire appel à certains éléments factuels et empiriques;

A concern for the problem of Bildung reoccurs in social sciences. The author claims that we should elicit a dominated normative meaning from many senses of the concept of Bildung, in order to explain his vitality and the possibility of his interdisciplinary application in more appropriate way.

AB - Towards an adequate moral theory: Hare’s Normative Ethics

According to Hare’s device, an adequate association of two mutually akin but independent theoretical disciplines – metaethics (universal prescriptivism) and normative ethics (utilitarianism) – enables the formation of the complete and coherent moral system. The main subject of this book is reception and critical analysis of Hare’s constructivism; but much more attention is dedicated to the substantive aspect of his doctrine, where idea of all-encompassing ethical theory is fully developed and crystallized. In Hare’s opinion, the fact that something like this is possible is approved by detailed inquiry of the structure of so-called “moral thinking”, which, although in theory divided into three plateaus or levels, in practice can operate as unique faculty. The first part of the book considers Hare’s metaethical doctrine, i.e. metaethical level of moral thinking. This part especially analyzes semantic and logical properties of the moral words and judgments, which Hare grasps and marks off as elements that constitute specific ethical theory in narrow sense under the name of “universal prescriptivism”. Thence, it contrasts the theory with the most prominent types of rival metaethical conceptions; this is a way of showing its supremacy over them. The second part analyzes Hare’s multiple ways of connecting his metaethical with his normative doctrine, which is in formal sense 197 determined as “Kantian utilitarianism”, and in substantive sense as “preference-utilitarianism”. Critical references to both dimensions of utilitarian doctrine aim at indication on scopes and limits of Hare’s ambitious redefinition of the doctrine. In addition, this part accessorily affirms a proposal about certain more rigorous terminological delimitation of different kinds of normativity. Further on it discusses about so-called “necessary ingredients” of moral reasoning, where special attention is being paid on element of “sympathetic imagination”, which Hare grasps in his developed theory not only as a normative demand but also as a logical thesis. Finally, it considers kinds of preferences that can or cannot be recognized (with help of established set of criteria) as morally relevant. The third (the last) part displays so-called “two-level theory” of normative moral thinking (“intuitive” level and “critical” level), including goals that are intended by its establishing. Given Hare’s holism, the metaethical level, considered as fundamental or the “third” level, has notable effect on process of normative reasoning, especially if it is taken as one of the determinant of the critical moral thinking. Upon examining the (utilitarian) character of the theory, its plausibility is verified in the light of its application to one specific theoretical realm – the realm of philosophy of moral upbringing and education.

AB - Autor izlaže i preispituje Herovu teoriju o dva nivoa normativnog
